POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER POSITION IN EARTH SYSTEM MODELLING, UNIVERSITY OF ZURICH

Are you interested in Arctic terrestrial ecosystems and their current and future changes? Do you have a background in climate or Earth system science, ecology, remote sensing, biogeosciences or in a related field and are experienced in Earth System Modelling? Then our postdoc position might be attractive to you. You will work in an interdisciplinary, international and diverse environment. Your main task will be to perform research on Arctic ecosystem – climate feedbacks under diverse scenarios. Scenarios might include different disturbances, nature-based solutions, or geoengineering. In addition to the research, the postdoc duties include teaching on and support of a course in Earth System Modelling in our Earth System Science Masters programme. Knowledge of and experience with supercomputing environments is a prerequisite.

Our research group is highly interdisciplinary and we integrate methods reaching from in situ experimental research, observational methods (including drone and satellite-based remote sensing), large-scale data syntheses, to modelling approaches for studying vegetation changes and feedbacks, especially through energy fluxes, in the Arctic system.

This postdoc position will allow you to further develop your academic profile, with opportunities in publishing, co-supervision of MSc and PhD students, teaching, and grant applications. The exact definition of the job profile will be discussed in more detail during job negotiations. The position will be at postdoc level (80-100%), for initially 2 years (including a 3-months trial period), starting no later than spring 2024. Working location is at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, on Irchel campus.

Please submit your application as a single pdf file, including a cover letter describing your motivation and potential contribution to our research topics and group, and a CV and list of publications to admin.schaepman-strub@ieu.uzh.ch. Review of applications will start on 02 January 2024.
